One thing I hear that frustrates me is peoples lack of willingness to rest. Maybe it is so strange to me because sleep is literally euphoric for me, like a high that I have not gotten from anything else that has no crash, it only adds to my energy and health. There is so much information about sleep out there and if your are not the part of the 5-10% of society that is genetically wired to survive with less sleep you are opening the door to dementia, performance decline, and hormone imbalances if you are not getting enough sleep.
Instead of digging up all the stats, I will just point you toward a sleep expert, Mathew Walker, who has the stats. Here is an interview with him on the Joe Rogan Experience.
One thing that Mr. Walker doesn’t mention, and maybe doesn’t know about is the use of blue blockers to maximize Melatonin production to maximize sleep. Very briefly our brain starts making melatonin throughout the day and is triggered by natural light frequencies. having excess blue light (screens, LED, LCD fluorescent, etc) can delay melatonin release or decrease melatonin production. That's why I recommend using blue blocking glasses, at least in the early morning and evening if you are going to be around artificial light. A couple affordable pairs can be found here and here. They may not be the most stylish, but they will help protect your hormone production. Look out for more blog posts that shed light on managing your environment for optimal health.
